Chris Spencer - XTO Energy Inc, Landman
Mr. Spencer will provide a general overview of the Bakken Shale play in North Dakota and Montana. He will also discuss land related challenges to drilling and operating in the Bakken Shale, including surface issues, well spacing, compulsory pooling, and oil and gas title matters.
Chris Spencer received his BBA from Texas Wesleyan University in 1991. He became a Certified Professional Landman in 2002.
While attending school, Chris worked for Meridian Oil Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduation he continued contract work with Meridian Oil in the Corporate Land Department, and was involved in several land administration and revenue accounting projects. He later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and joined Mueller Engineering Corp., a small independent operator where he became Land Manager.
In the industry downturn in the late 90’s he moved back to Fort Worth joining Cross Timbers Oil Company (now XTO Energy Inc.) where he currently holds the position of Senior Staff Landman in the Rocky Mountains Region. He has worked in South Texas, the San Juan Basin, New Mexico, the Green River Basin, Wyoming and is currently working primarily in the Bakken Shale in North Dakota.
Chris has served on the Executive Committees of the Corpus Christi Association of Professional Landmen and Fort Worth Association of Professional Landmen (served as FWAPL President in 2004-2005). He currently serves on the American Association of Professional Landmen Education Committee.
